Over 30 years ago Serra held its first Bishop’s Altar Server Award ceremony. Today Serra Canada, through its Serra Clubs, sponsors the Bishop’s Altar Server Awards in numerous dioceses across Canada with over a thousand altar servers receiving awards annually.
The Bishop’s Altar Server Award Program is an opportunity for parishes to recognize and honour those devoted altar servers who display a sense of responsibility, leadership and dedication in their duties and who appreciate and understand their responsibilities at the altar.
The annual Bishop’s Altar Server Awards starts with Mass celebrated by the Bishop followed by the awarding of medals to the altar servers and a reception. The ceremony is well attended not only by parents of the altar servers but also by grandparents, aunts, uncles and even godparents of the altar servers.
